Welcome to Arkansas Locomotive Works. Here on this self-run RUclips Channel, I strive my best efforts to showcase high-quality videos of railfanning in the United States, and sometimes abroad to those who enjoy railroading videos. While the main focus here is to showcase real railroads, I also enjoy producing model railroading videos, and Trainz Simulator videos as more of an off-topic subject here but will still show up every now and then. Semaphores and Searchlights on the Southwest Chief
During our visit to the Cumbres & Toltec in early September, we also captured Amtrak's Southwest Chief running by the famous Semaphore Signals of BNSF's Raton and Glorieta Subdivisions. Initially, we wanted to see train #4, the eastbound, but it had a 6-hour 30-minute delay due to engine failure out of Winslow and Gallup. So my friends and I decided to just chase train #3, the westbound, from Wagon Mound to outside of Albuquerque. I hope you enjoy this shorter video of Amtrak's Southwest Chief roaming New Mexico.

It's honestly almost impossible to tell that this locomotive was once a Burlington Route locomotive unless you did a Google search. And it's honestly still surprising that this locomotive was almost scrapped.

To be 100% honest the Cumbres and Toltec and the Durango and Silverton are the operations that have the hardest climbs yet, ironically, also some of the most engaging and scenic surroundings.
Rode it in 1999, and in 2017 with 2 of my kids, planning to go back soon.

@@skybrineplays4110 That's actually the "ghost whistle" effect. The hills in the area make it perfect for the echo of the whistle to repeat back, almost sounding like another train.

I grew up near the tracks in the 1950's and I still remember the train horns and Patsy Cline singing " The Wayward Wind". Joined the military in 68, got out after Vietnam in 72, been traveling ever since, prefer places next to the tracks!
